Pearl Street Mall is a large outdoor strip mall in Boulder, Colorado featuring a movie theater and a fantastic array of shops and restaurants. The mall can be accessed by an elevator that leads to the back of Lighthouse Books, a bookstore run by a squib named Jerry Christie and his son Harrison. Due to the large following of the Wiccan religion in the area, certain shops are able to sell magical items - with shopowner discretion, of course. Apothecaries allow students to restock their potions supplies and offer occasional internships, while other stores have secret selections of magical materials including quills, candies, music, and books. Only third-years and above may come to Pearl Street unsupervised, though first and second-years often make supervised trips with their Cultural Studies class.
