The sorting system at Rocky Mountain International wasn’t foolproof. Sometimes it made sense - she and Anssi were definitely Dracos, and Drew was a proper Cetus. Kit made sense in Lyra. Every time she spent the smallest amount of time with an Aquila, it was clear they belonged in the prank-happy house. But sometimes, the dreamcatcher or whatever the actual sorting system was could get it wrong. Remington didn’t see Darlene as a Lyra, and there were a couple Ceti who seemed a little to - ah - hot headed for their house.
And then there was Deagret, proudly explaining how she’d pierced her own ears at home over the summer. Nothing about that story made Remington want to pierce her ears after all. It also made her question the audience on TikTok. Who would want to watch that? It made her stomach a little queasy. How was this kid not in Aquila?
Yeah, she’d have to keep an eye on Deagret.
Thankfully, the younger girl wasn’t excited about piercings for the school year and they could talk about normal school things. “Pearl Street is great. The bookstore is my favorite, and I still haven’t tried all of the ice cream flavors at Finnegan’s.” She would never try the Tuna Melt ice cream herself, because something seemed extremely wrong about it, but that was a different story.
“It’s my last year, so I’ll be applying to colleges.” Her gaze wandered over to Drew at the Cetus, and she brought it right back to Deagret. “And I’m looking forward to spending more time with my friends. And I’m hoping to finish my animagus work really soon.”
