An innocent Cetus

Ever since Drew and Remy had started dating, Dakota had spent less time with both of them, and less time with Kit since she was Kit and without Drew, Dakota wasn’t really obligated to put up with her. Anssi had always been kind of quiet and just there so Dakota still hung out with him sometimes, but mostly at this point she kept to herself and was occasionally dragged out of her shell by DJ. It wasn’t much of a surprise to find Dakota at lunch alone and with a textbook. The bonus of having almost no social life was that her marks had actually limped their way up to mostly Os for the first time in her entire life. She still wasn’t MIT material she was pretty sure, but if she kept this up and got some really good recommendation letters…

Absently, Dakota reached for a cupcake. Then she looked up, because to her surprise, a disappointed Madeleine was standing there. Dakota looked at the plate where the cupcake had been. It was the last cupcake, and since Dakota had already had two - and since it was Madeleine - she was about to hand the cupcake over when Madeleine then proceeded to tell her about how Dakota was going to be turned inside out now. By Madeleine. Madeleine. Drew’s little sister.

What?

Dakota put the cupcake down on the plate she’d picked it up from, closed her textbook, and cocked her head to the side.

“Do you know how to do that?” she asked, curious. Dakota did, in fact, know how to do that. In theory anyway. A combination of Holland, Rose, and Jenna teaching Dakota what they all thought she needed to know to stay safe inside and outside of RMI meant that Dakota knew a lot of magic that she probably wasn’t supposed to know. Despite the fact that she was dressed like everyone’s image of a modern Dark witch in a black top that was fitted in the torso and flared out into loose, lacy sleeves and black skinny jeans, with heeled black boots, Dakota didn’t actually consider herself a Dark witch. She just...knew things.

Dark magic did require intent though, and Dakota just didn’t have the intent for a lot of it. Sure, she knew how to turn someone inside out and yeah, she’d tried using two Unforgiveable Curses on a spider she’d found in the library and trapped in a little jar, but it hadn’t really worked. Dakota thought she’d saw the spider twitch a little bit with the Cruciatus Curse but that could very easily have been a figment of her imagination. Anyway, if Dakota couldn’t muster up the intent for that sort of thing, she would be very surprised if Madeleine could.
