Mal had had...kind of a rough fourth year. For one, he'd taken way and nearly had a stress-induced breakdown. On top of that, he was worrying about what to take for this year, as well as thinking about exams.
His mom had mentioned in one of her letters that she was interested in whatever it was he wanted to do but...at the time? He'd had no clue.
Speaking of his mother, at the end of Mal's fourth year, she apparently thought it was a great idea to sit her very tired, very stressed out son down and tell him that she was pregnant. Which is, of course, a huge bomb to drop on your son. He was definitely happy for his mom and his step-dad Kevin! In fact, Mal himself was super excited. It drove him to start learning how to cook (with Kevin too, of course) so that his mom wouldn't have to do stuff. So it was nice.
But also, Bianca turned eleven in August. And she hadn't gotten a letter yet.
He decided not to think about that and what it meant right now.
When the circle turned to him, the tall boy spluttered for a moment, having been totally consumed by his thoughts. "Oh um, my name is Malachi, my pronouns are he/him, and uh...I think the Wiggentree is cool." He'd caught off guard. Which further went to show that Mal was not himself.
Hearing that they were going to be working with...poisonous plants had been rather surprising, but he guessed it was necessary to know. But now he needed to find someone to work with, and that was uh...not his strongest suit. Mal was quiet. He liked to work alone. So this was going to be interesting.
The fifth year just kind of...stood there for awhile, waiting for someone to come up to him. He looked very awkward. He was definitely awkward.
