It had been so long since the baseball cap had seen the outside world that it didn’t mind when it realized that it was in the Draco House library once more. This was where it had been lost, all those years ago. Or well, ‘lost’ was a strong word, more like where it had been left when its wearer had been expelled for allegedly selling powders and potions rumored to increase intelligence and attention (okay, the baseball cap knew it had happened - it had been there, after all). It had been collected by a house-elf afterwards, but now it was back. It could feel the vibe. Things were coming and it was just a matter of time before the baseball cap and its wearer figured out how to game the system and make bank.
Unbeknownst to the hat, some wayward magic had slipped into it in the time it had spent tucked away in the Secret Passageways with all the other hats in the house-elf’s collection. Anyone who came within a few feet of it would be compelled to pick it up and put it on. Worse, it was now a semi-sapient Thinking Cap and would help grease the wheels in the wearer’s mind, bringing to light as many ideas as they might possibly come up with and compelling them to share them out loud. The baseball cap was ready to teach its new wearer all the tricks of the trade when it came to scamming people out of their money - and this time, they wouldn’t get caught.
